I am a designer

I am a designer. I am an animator. I design characters and their background to move and interact. I sketch out these things to bring them to life. This career is what I want to spend my life doing. Drawing has been my passion ever sense I could hold a crayon and I believe the most satisfying thing will be when my drawings start to move.  It's a dream I am determined to make reality.  

Final Project

Day 1: I talked with the other people in my major and decided the most important elements of my composition are shape and color. The most important principle is repetition. 

Day 2: I started thinking of ideas and sketched out some concept ideas.

Day 3: I got one colored and small detailed concept idea done.

Day 4: I thought of names and began coming up with their background story. I decided Frank for the Giraffe, and Sammy for the ferret.

Day 5: I began drawing the emotions for these characters and cut them out.

Day 6:  I redrew my concept idea, finalized it, and cut it out.

                                                               

Day 7: I drew the front view of my characters and cut them out. I also drew out their names for the finished product.

Day 8: I organized and glued all the pieces on a black poster board. This was my finished product.

 Vibrating Colors

Vibrating colors are colors that put beside one another, make the eyes flip back and forth.

Surrealism

Surrealism is a form of art that cannot be explained rationally.

Enigmatic

Enigmatic is when the sizing of objects throw off the viewer because they're in a strange proportion.  For example, teacups and plates are not usually this large compared to humans.

Hieratic Scaling

Hieratic scaling is shown in this image by making Simba (the king)  larger in proportion to the other animals.

Continuation

Continuation is when an object continues to make your eyes follow it.

Repetition

Repetition is the repeating of an object throughout an image.

Monochromatic

A monochromatic image is one made of different tints and shades of one hue as represented above.

A hue is another word for the name of a color.

Spectrum

When light is dispersed by a prism it creates a color spectrum.

Primary colors

The primary colors are colors that cannot be made by mixing any two colors. They are used in the feathers of this parrot.

Cross Hatching

Crosshatching is a shading technique used to show the lightness and darkness in an image. Putting the lines closer together makes it appear darker and spacing them out makes it seem lighter.

Shading

The shading in this image clearly depicts the lightness and darkness. It's a drawing technique that can show where the light source comes from.

This example of value shows the gradual change from dark purple to light purple.

The back half of the dog's head is blurred implying motion.  The background is also blurred to show the same concept.

The multiple repetition of these people in different positions implies movement.

Illusions of space

Overlapping is one way to create an illusion of space.  It creates the illusion of depth so that the circle appears closer than the square.

Texture

This fox's fur is a great example of texture. It visually appears to be furry even though you couldn't physically touch it.

Collage

This is image is a collage. It is many images pasted onto and around one another to make one full image. Collages don't always have to be just pictures. it could be made of any material or other objects.

Figure and Ground

The figure and ground depend on how you see it. If you see the man playing the saxophone first then that is the figure and the white portion is the ground. if you see the woman's face first then that is the figure and the black portion is the ground.

Distortion

 

This caricature of a boy is a good example of distortion. His features are overly exaggerated to make them stand out more.
